F403 Aftercooler Temperature - Too High

This fault code signals a high temperature alarm for the engine aftercooler. It triggers a non-critical alarm at 82 °C (180 °F) or above which is caused by a low resistance variable resistance sensor on a 5 volt supply.

  1. Mode 2 can be used to view the fault code stored in memory with engine hours of occurrence. Check the temperature of the engine aftercooler.

    Expected Result: The temperature has been 82 °C (180 °F) for 3 minutes or 93 °C (200 °F) for 30 seconds.

    • YES, use the time intervals of previous events, if available, to diagnose the temperature fault, repair. Operate the machine until it reaches normal operating temperature. Check active fault code. If fault code is not active, the repair is complete.

    • NO, go to Step 2.

  1. Visually inspect Rear Main harness, Front Main harness and connectors (C002, C008 and C106) for damage or damaged terminals.

    Expected Result: There is damaged parts or broken parts.

    • YES, repair damage to harness or connectors as appropriate. Operate the machine until it reaches normal operating temperature. Check active fault code. If fault code is not active, the repair is complete.

    • NO, go to Step 3.

  1. Check for short circuit from C002-25 to C106-A and C106-B to C002-8. C106-B is chassis ground and C106-A should be 5 volts.

    Expected Result: There is an open in the circuit.

    • YES, locate and repair open circuit in Rear Main or Front Main harness. Operate the machine until it reaches normal operating temperature. Check active fault code. If fault code is not active, the repair is complete.

    • NO, go to Step 4.

  1. Check C106-A to C106-B at the sensor, which should be high resistance at low temperature and low resistance at high temperature. If the sensor is faulty or questionable, replace engine aftercooler temperature sensor with a new sensor and run machine until it reaches normal operating temperature.

    Expected Result: The fault code is not active.

    • YES, repair complete.

    • NO, go to Step 5.

  1. Download latest control module software into all control modules.

    Expected Result: The fault code is active.

    • YES, go to Step 6.

    • NO, repair is complete. Calibrate transmission and three-point hitch.

  1. Replace the Chassis Control Module (CCM).

    Expected Result: The fault code is active.

    • YES, install the original CCM and repeat this troubleshooting procedure.

    • NO, go to Step 7.

  1. Install the original CCM.

    Expected Result: The fault code is active.

    • YES, original CCM was faulty. Replace original CCM with new CCM. If fault code is not active, repair is complete. Download latest control module software into all modules. Calibrate transmission and three-point hitch.

    • NO, this fault code may have been caused by faulty connectors. Keep the original on the tractor. Clean all terminals on the CCM and reconnect. If fault code is not active, repair is complete. Download latest control module software into all modules. Calibrate transmission and three-point hitch.
