F401 Engine Oil Pressure - Too Low (Shutdown)

This fault code signals a low pressure alarm for the engine oil while the engine is running and also initiates the automatic engine shutdown by shutting off fuel to the engine. This is a critical alarm with shutdown.

  1. Check the engine oil lubrication system.

    Expected Result: The engine oil lubrication system is functioning properly

    • YES, refer to the engine section of the Service Manual to verify system function. Since fault codes are stored in memory with the related engine hour time of occurrence, use the time intervals of previous fault events, if available, to diagnose the low oil pressure fault. Locate and repair any problems. Check fault code and if no longer active the repair is complete.

    • NO, go to Step 2.

  1. Inspect engine oil pressure sensor, front and Rear Main harness and connectors (C002, C008 and C103) for damage.

    Expected Result: There is damaged parts or broken parts.

    • YES, repair damage to sensor, harness or connectors as appropriate. Check fault codes. If fault code is not active, repair is complete.

    • NO, go to Step 3.

  1. Replace engine oil pressure sensor with a new sensor and run the machine.

    Expected Result: The fault code has cleared.

    • YES, repair complete.

    • NO, go to Step 4.

  1. Download latest control module software into all control modules.

    Expected Result: The fault code is active.

    • YES, go to Step 5.

    • NO, repair is complete. Calibrate transmission and three-point hitch.

  1. Replace the Chassis Control Module (CCM).

    Expected Result: The fault code is active.

    • YES, install the original CCM and repeat this troubleshooting procedure.

    • NO, go to Step 6.

  1. Install the original CCM.

    Expected Result: The fault code is active.

    • YES, original CCM was faulty. Replace original CCM with new CCM. If fault code is not active, repair is complete. Download latest control module software into all modules. Calibrate transmission and three-point hitch.

    • NO, this fault code may have been caused by faulty connectors. Keep the original on the tractor. Clean all terminals on the CCM and reconnect. If fault code is not active, repair is complete. Download latest control module software into all modules. Calibrate transmission and three-point hitch.
