Joystick Control

Usage:

TH82 3JN

------ WARNING! ------

Improper use of the boom and attachments could result in injury or death. The operator must be fully aware of all the functions for the joystick control and proper operating techniques.

----------------------

The following information describes two types of operating arrangement for the joystick control. The decal for the joystick is installed in the cab of the machine. The decal indicates the movements that will be produced when you operate the joystick control.

Note: Some earlier machines that are not covered by this manual have different joystick controls. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6865 for more detailed information.

You must understand all of the functions of the joystick control before you operate the machine.

Type A Control Arrangement

Illustration 1g00567183

Machines that have the type A control arrangement are equipped with the 140-7909 Decal that is shown above. The joystick control operates in the following way:

Illustration 2g00670103

Boom Raise - Pull joystick control (1) backward in order to raise the boom. When the joystick control is released, the joystick control will return to the HOLD position.

Boom Lower - Push joystick control (1) forward in order to lower the boom. When the joystick control is released, the joystick control will return to the HOLD position.

Boom Extend - Press and hold the right side of boom extend (switch) (2) in order to extend the boom. When the switch is released, the switch will return to the HOLD position.

Boom Retract - Press and hold the left side of boom retract (switch) (2) in order to retract the boom. When the switch is released, the switch will return to the HOLD position.

Quick Coupler (Tilt Forward) - Push joystick control (1) to the right in order to tilt the quick coupler forward. When the joystick control is released, the joystick control will return to the HOLD position.

Quick Coupler (Tilt Backward) - Push joystick control (1) to the left in order to tilt the quick coupler backward. When the joystick control is released, the joystick control will return to the HOLD position.

The speed of the following functions is governed by the amount of movement of the joystick control and engine speed.

  • Boom raise

  • Boom lower

  • Quick coupler (tilt forward)

  • Quick coupler (tilt backward)

For smooth operation, first increase the engine speed from low idle. Then move joystick control (1) slowly until the attachment is moving at the required speed.

The speed of the boom extend and boom retract depends on the engine speed only. Operate switch (2) when the engine speed is operating at low speed. Increase the engine speed in order to increase the speed of the boom.

Move joystick control (1) diagonally in order to simultaneously tilt the quick coupler forward or backward while the boom is being raised or lowered.

Move joystick control (1) diagonally. At the same time operate switch (2) in order to simultaneously tilt the quick coupler while the boom is being operated in two directions.

Type B Control Arrangement

Illustration 3g00567415

Machines that have the type B control arrangement are equipped with the 141-8438 Decal that is shown above. The joystick control operates in the following way:

Illustration 4g00670116

Boom Raise - Pull joystick control (1) backward in order to raise the boom. When the joystick control is released, the joystick control will return to the HOLD position.

Boom Lower - Push joystick control (1) forward in order to lower the boom. When the joystick control is released, the joystick control will return to the HOLD position.

Boom Extend - Push joystick control (1) to the right in order to extend the boom. When the joystick control is released, the joystick control will return to the HOLD position.

Boom Retract - Push joystick control (1) to the left in order to retract the boom. When the joystick control is released, the joystick control will return to the HOLD position.

Quick Coupler (Tilt Forward) - Press and hold switch (3). Then push joystick control (1) to the right in order to tilt the quick coupler forward. When the joystick control is released, the joystick control will return to the HOLD position.

Quick Coupler (Tilt Backward) - Press and hold switch (3). Then push joystick control (1) to the left in order to tilt the quick coupler backward. When the joystick control is released, the joystick control will return to the HOLD position.

Note: When switch (3) is pressed, the boom can not be extended and the boom can not be retracted.

The speed of the following functions is governed by the amount of movement of the joystick control and engine speed.

  • Boom extend

  • Boom retract

  • Boom raise

  • Boom lower

  • Quick coupler (tilt forward)

  • Quick coupler (tilt backward)

For smooth operation, first increase the engine speed from low idle. Then move joystick control (1) slowly until the attachment is moving at the required speed.

Move joystick control (1) diagonally in order to simultaneously extend the boom or retract the boom while the boom is being raised or lowered.

Move joystick control (1) diagonally. At the same time operate switch (3) in order to simultaneously tilt the quick coupler while the boom is being raised or lowered.

Auxiliary Hydraulic Actuator Controls for the Type A Control Arrangement and the Type B Control Arrangement

Illustration 5g00602175

On machines which are equipped with the type A control arrangement, auxiliary actuators are controlled by switches (3) and (4) .

On machines which are equipped with the type B control arrangement, auxiliary actuators are controlled by switch (2) .

Operation of a Quick Coupler which is controlled by hydraulic power

Illustration 6g00602176

If machines are equipped with a quick coupler which is controlled by hydraulic power, an additional switch (5) is installed on the dash panel. In order to disengage the pins for the quick coupler, the dash panel switch must be operated in conjunction with the switches that are mounted on the joystick control.

Type A Control Arrangement

In order to engage the quick coupler pins, press and hold switch (3). Release switch (3) when the quick coupler pins are fully engaged.

In order to disengage the quick coupler pins, press and hold dash panel switch (5). At the same time press and hold switch (4). Release switch (5) and switch (4) when the quick coupler pins are fully disengaged.

Type B Control Arrangement

In order to engage the quick coupler pins, press and hold the right side of switch (2). Release switch (2) when the quick coupler pins are fully engaged.

In order to disengage the quick coupler pins, press and hold dash panel switch (5). At the same time press and hold the left side of switch (2). Release switch (5) and switch (2) when the quick coupler pins are fully disengaged.

If a machine is equipped with a quick coupler which is controlled by hydraulic power, the lever for the changeover valve must be turned clockwise to the LOWER position before you operate the machine.

Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Quick Coupler (Hydraulic)" for more information.
