This is the procedure for checking the Duo-Cone seals. Improper assembly of the Duo-Cone seals may cause the Duo-cone seals to leak. Also, the housing for the all wheel drive piston motor could fail. There is one Duo-cone seal in each of the front wheel assemblies.
It is important to use the correct assembly procedures when the Duo-Cone seals are installed. Many of the failures of the Duo-Cone seals are the result of improper seal assembly. Prior to installation, the Duo-Cone seals must be free of oil, dust or other foreign matter. No particles of any kind are permissible on the sealing surfaces. A small piece of paper towel can cause the seal faces to move apart. This would cause the seal to leak.
Test Step 1. Perform the following test: Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting
Results:
- OK - Proceed to test step 2.
Test Step 2. Perform the following test: Hydraulic Pressure - Release
Results:
- OK - Proceed to test step 3.
Test Step 3.
- Drain the hydraulic oil from the all wheel drive piston motor into a suitable container.
