  1. Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

  2. Use a hoist, appropriate lifting straps, and Tooling (A) to lift top radiator tank assembly (21).

  3. Place a new gasket and top radiator tank assembly (21) onto radiator (1). Install two stiffening strips (30), 32 nuts (29), and the washers that secure the top radiator tank assembly (21) to radiator (1). Tighten nuts (29) to a torque of 23 ± 1 N·m (17 ± 1 lb ft).

  4. Install two stiffening strips (28), six bolts (27), the washers and the nuts that secure the top radiator tank assembly (21) to radiator (1).

  5. Place four gussets (9) into position on top radiator tank assembly (21). Install 12 nuts (26) and the washers that secure gussets (9) to top radiator tank assembly (21).

  6. Install cap assembly (25) to top radiator tank assembly (21).

  7. Place relief valve (24) into position. Install six screws (23) and the washers that secure relief valve (24) to top radiator tank assembly (21). Install hose (22).

    Note: Use 1U-8846 Sealant to seal the relief valve.

  8. Install a new gasket onto radiator inlet (20). Place radiator inlet (20) into position. Install four bolts (19) and the washers that secure the radiator inlet to top radiator tank assembly (21).

  9. Place a new gasket on bottom radiator tank assembly (11). Use the hoist to raise the radiator and install bottom radiator tank assembly (11).

  10. Install two stiffening strips (18) to the bottom radiator tank assembly (11). Install 32 nuts (17) and the washers that secure bottom radiator tank assembly (11 ) to the radiator.

  11. Install two stiffening strips (16) to bottom radiator tank assembly (11). Install four bolts (14), the washers, and six nuts (15) that secure the bottom radiator tank assembly to the radiator.

  12. Place a new gasket into position onto radiator outlet (13). Place the radiator outlet into position. Install four bolts (12) and the washers that secure radiator outlet (13) to bottom radiator tank assembly (11).

  13. Place four gussets (9) into position on the bottom radiator tank assembly (11). Install 12 bolts (10) and the washers that secure the gussets to the bottom radiator tank assembly.

  14. Place side panels (7) into position. Install 24 bolts (8), the washers and nuts that secure the side panels (7) to gussets (9).

  15. If necessary, install 22 bolts (4), the washers and the nuts, that secure six plates (5) and two strips (6) to side panels (7).

  16. Place shroud assembly (3) into position. Install eight bolts (2) and the washers that secure shroud assembly (3) to radiator (1).

End By:

  1. Install the radiator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Radiator - Install".
