Personal injury or death can result from falling track. Separating a track can cause the track to fall too fast. Before doing any service work which requires separating a track, a thorough inspection of the front track roller frame must be made. The tractor must be on a hard, level surface before the track roller frame is removed. See Special Instruction SMHS8273 for further information. |
The machine must be on a level, hard surface before a separation of the track is made. Any time a separation of both tracks is made, the machine must have blocks correctly positioned so the machine will not move. |
- Remove track adjuster cover (1) from the roller frame. Remove the O-ring seal from the cover.

- Loosen the track by using the following procedure:
- Turn relief valve (2) counterclockwise by one turn in order to permit grease to be released from the track adjuster. If the track does not loosen, go to Step 2.b.
- Turn fill valve (3) counterclockwise by one turn in order to permit grease to be released from the track adjuster. Start the machine if the track does not loosen. Move the machine forward and backward. If grease is not released, go to Step 2.c.
- Install a piece of round bar stock between the bushing and sprocket inside the links. Move the machine to the rear so that the track will be pushed up by the round bar stock. This will put tension on the track. Also, the track adjuster will be moved in.

Personal injury can result from grease under high pressure. The adjuster cylinder for the track is under high hydraulic pressure. Grease under high pressure can cause injury. Do not visually inspect the adjuster to see if grease is released when the valve is opened. Check the rod to see that it moves to the rear into the front support on the track roller frame. |
- Move the track until the master link is in alignment with the centerline of rear idler (5). Put Tool (C) underneath the grouser bar just below the master link.

- Remove six bolts (6) and master shoe (4) .
- Install Tool (D) and a chain to the end of track (7). Connect the chain to a wheel loader or to a similar machine. Turn the final drive in a forward direction and permit track (7) to fall forward while the wheel loader is moved forward.

Keep away from the front of the machine when the track is pushed off the final drive. A minimum distance of 7.6 m (25 ft) is needed in front of the track to permit the track to move out onto the floor. |
- If you are removing the track from the machine, use Tooling (A) in order to lift the side of the machine by a distance of approximately 25.4 mm (1.00 inch). Put Tooling (B) in position underneath the machine. Lower the machine on Tooling (B) .
- Remove the track under the track roller frame. The weight of the track is approximately 680 kg (1,500 lb).
Note: For proper methods and procedures for servicing the track assemblies, refer to Undercarriage Reconditioning Bulletin, SEBF8501.
