Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To help prevent possible injury before testing and adjusting any hydraulic system, perform the procedure that follows:

Steering Time

  1. Move the machine to a dry, hard surface.

  1. Engage the parking brake and actuate the service brakes.

  1. Raise the bucket or the implement off the ground.

  1. With the engine speed at low idle, turn the steering wheel to one of the stops. Turn the steering wheel in the other direction to the opposite stop. The steering time should be 2.8 ± .6 seconds.

  1. Increase the engine to high idle.

  1. Turn the steering wheel to a stop. Turn the steering wheel in the other direction to the opposite stop. The steering time should be 1.2 ± .4 seconds.

Steering Wheel Free Play

The design of the metering pump allows slight free play of the steering wheel, while the engine is stopped.
