Drive Shaft (Front) - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the carrier bearing for the drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Carrier Bearing (Driveshaft) - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.

  1. Support front drive shaft (1) with a suitable lifting device.

  1. Remove bolts (2) that hold front drive shaft (1) to the yoke on the front axle housing.

  1. Use two people to carefully remove front drive shaft (1). The weight of front drive shaft (1) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb).

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

When the front drive shaft is installed, it must be installed in phase with the front axle assembly yoke. The front drive shaft must be installed in phase with the center and rear drive shafts. Serious component damage could occur. Be certain that all the joint groups, all the yokes, and all the lubricating fittings are aligned.

  1. Use two people to carefully install front drive shaft (1). The weight of front drive shaft (1) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb).

  1. Install bolts (2) that hold front drive shaft (1) to the yoke on the front axle housing. Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 150 ± 15 N·m (110 ± 11 lb ft). Refer to Illustration 3 for the correct tightening sequence.

  1. Remove the suitable lifting device from front drive shaft (1) .

  1. Lubricate the front drive shaft. For the correct procedure, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the machine that is being serviced.

End By: Install the carrier bearing for the drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Carrier Bearing (Driveshaft) - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.
