Note: Inspect the O-ring seals. Replace any O-ring seals that are worn or damaged.

Note: During the installation, lubricate the O-ring seals with the fluid that is being sealed.

  1. Use Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to support the weight of the torque converter. The weight of the torque converter is approximately 1150 kg (2535 lb).

  1. Use a suitable lifting device to raise the drive shaft as high as possible. Support the center tube with blocking.

  1. Attach torque converter (63) to the flywheel housing.

  1. Install the washers and bolts (62) .

    Note: During the installation of the torque converter, do not reuse bolts (59) and (60) .

  1. Install spider (61) . Install bolts (60) .

  1. Extend the drive shaft. Connect the output yoke of the torque converter to the drive shaft. Install bolts (59) .

    Note: During the removal and installation, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft (Main) - Remove and Install".

  1. Install front drive shaft guard (58) .

    Note: During the installation of the front drive shaft guard, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft Guard (Front) - Remove and Install".

  1. Install O-ring seal (57) and connect hose assembly (56) .

  1. Install O-ring seal (55) and connect hose assembly (54) .

  1. Install O-ring seal (53) and connect hose assembly (52) .

  1. Reposition harness assemblies (51) for the installation to the torque converter.

  1. Install O-ring seal (47) and connect hose assembly (46) .

  1. Install O-ring seal (45) and connect hose assembly (44) .

  1. Use Tooling (A) (not shown) to connect output speed sensor (50) of the torque converter. Install lockwire (49) and strap (48) .

    Note: During the installation of the output speed sensor, refer to Disassembly and Assembly.

  1. Connect the bypass switch of the transmission filter. Install nuts (43) . Tighten nuts (43) to a torque of 3.7 ± 0.3 N·m (2.73 ± 0.22 lb ft).

  1. Connect the bypass switch of the outlet screen for the torque converter. Install nuts (40) . Tighten nuts (40) to a torque of 3.7 ± .3 N·m (2.73 ± 0.22 lb ft).

  1. Use Tooling (A) (not shown) to connect outlet temperature sensor (42) of the torque converter. Use straps (41) , as needed.

    Note: During the installation of the outlet temperature sensor, refer to Disassembly and Assembly for the correct procedure.

  1. Install clip (39) , the washer, and bolt (38) .

  1. Position hose (34) . Install O-ring seal (37) , split flange (36) , the washers, and bolts (35) .

  1. Repeat Step 19 for remaining hose assemblies (32) and (33) .

  1. Position tube (31) . Install O-ring seal (30) , split flange (29) , the washers, and bolts (28) .

  1. Install the washers and bolts (27) .

  1. Install split clamp (26) , the washer, and bolt (25) .

  1. Install O-ring seal (17) , bolts (15) , block (16) , and the washers.

  1. Install O-ring seal (20) and connect hose assembly (19) . Install O-ring seal (22) and connect hose assembly (21) .

  1. Install O-ring seal (14) and connect hose assembly (12) . Install split flange (13) , the washers, and bolts (18) .

  1. Install O-ring seal (24) and connect hose assembly (23) .

  1. Position hose assembly (9) . Install the grommet, split clamp (11) , the washer, and bolt (10) .

  1. Position hose (8) and install the washer and bolt (7) .

  1. Position hose (3) . Install O-ring seal (6) and connect block (5) . Install washers and bolts (4) .

  1. Install the plug (1) . Install O-ring seal (2) . Replace the plug. Fill the torque converter with oil. The capacity of the torque converter and transmission sump is approximately 102 L (26.9 US gal).

End By: Remove the truck body retaining cable. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Truck Body Retaining Cable - Remove and Install".
