Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin. Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure. |
- Drain the hydraulic oil from the hydraulic tank into a suitable device. The capacity of the hydraulic tank is
420 L (111 US gal) . Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7173, "Hoist, Torque Converter and Brake Tank Oil - Change" for the correct procedure.Show/hide tableIllustration 1 g00511998 Show/hide tableIllustration 2 g00511999 - Position a suitable container under control valve (1) in order to contain hydraulic oil for storage or disposal.
- Remove plug (2) and the O-ring seal from the underside of control valve (1) in order to drain any remaining hydraulic oil from control valve (1).
Note: Check the O-ring seal on plug (2) for wear or damage. Replace the O-ring seal, if necessary. Lubricate the O-ring seal with the lubricant that is being sealed.
- Reinstall plug (2) and the O-ring seal in order to prevent contamination.

- Remove five bolts (24) and the washers from control valve (1).
- Use the hoist to lift control valve (1) up approximately
6.35 mm (0.25 inch) . The weight of control valve (1) is186 kg (410 lb) . Move control valve (1) toward the front of the truck until bracket (25) is no longer below control valve (1). Lower control valve (1) until control valve (1) is clear of the frame assembly of the truck.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Note: Put identification marks on all hose assemblies, on all tube assemblies and on all wire harnesses for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to prevent contaminants from entering the system.
