Retarder Hydraulic Control Valve - Remove

Usage:

D250E II 4PS

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the crankcase guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, SENR9124, "Crankcase Guard- Remove and Install".

------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss and contamination of the oil system.

  1. Drain the oil from the torque converter by removing the cover from the torque converter screen. There will be approximately 19 L (5 US gal) of fluid in the torque converter.

Note: Sensor housing (2) will drop from the retarder hydraulic control valve when bolts (5) are removed.

Note: Contain the fluid from hydraulic pipes (1) and (6) and the retarder hydraulic control valve when the hydraulic connections are opened.

  1. Loosen hose clamps (7) from hydraulic hoses (3) . Remove eight bolts (5) and four half clamps (4) in order to disconnect hydraulic pipes (1) and (6) from the retarder hydraulic control valve. Remove hydraulic pipes (1) and (6) from the retarder hydraulic control valve and hydraulic hoses (3) . Remove the O-ring seals from hydraulic pipes (1) and (6) .

  1. Check the condition of the O-ring seal in sensor housing (2) . If the O-ring seal is damaged replace the component with new Caterpillar parts. Position sensor housing (2) to the retarder hydraulic control valve. Install eight bolts (5) , four half clamps (4) and two plugs (8) to the retarder hydraulic control valve.

  1. Remove eight bolts (13) and four half clamps (9) in order to disconnect hydraulic pipe (12) and hydraulic hose (14) from the retarder hydraulic control valve. Loosen retaining nut (11) in order to disconnect hydraulic hose (10) from the retarder hydraulic control valve.

  1. Remove the O-ring seals from hydraulic pipe (12) , hydraulic hose (10) and hydraulic hose (14) .
