Retarder Hydraulic Control Valve - Disassemble

Disassembly Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the retarder hydraulic control valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Retarder Hydraulic Control Valve - Remove". The information is in this manual.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove O-ring seals (2) , (3) , (4) and (5) from valve assembly (1) .

  1. Remove four bolts (6) , wire clip (8) and plate (7) from valve assembly (1) .

  1. Remove slug (10) , spring (9) and O-ring seal (11) from spool valve assembly (1) .

  1. Remove four bolts (12) and cover (13) from valve body (14) .

  1. Remove valve spool (15) , spring (16) and stop (17) as a unit from valve body (14) .

  1. Remove spring (16) and stop (17) from valve spool (15) .

  1. Remove bolt (20) , stop (19) and diaphragm (18) from the valve spool. Remove the hollow pin that is between the valve spool and diaphragm (18) .

  1. Remove four bolts (21) , four bolts (22) , two half clamps (24) , two half clamps (23) , sensor housing (25) and the plugs from valve body (14) .

  1. Remove sensor (27) and O-ring seal (26) from sensor housing (25) .

  1. Remove plug (31) , spring (29) and plunger (28) from valve body (14) . Remove O-ring seal (30) from plug (31) .
