Start By:

  1. Remove the drive shaft guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft Gaurd (Hydraulic) - Remove and Install".

  2. Remove the gear pump (hoist and rear brake cooling). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Gear Pump (Hoist and Rear Brake Cooling) - Remove".

  3. Remove the gear pump (torque converter and parking brake release). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Gear Pump (Torque Converter and Parking Brake Release) - Remove".

  4. Remove the piston pump (steering). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Piston Pump (Steering) - Remove".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

The space between the body and the frame becomes a zero clearance area when the body is lowered. Failure to install the retaining cable can result in injury or death to personnel working in this area.

  1. Remove four bolts (3) and the washers. Lower drive shaft (2) out of the way.

  2. Disconnect hose assembly (4).

  3. Disconnect hose assemblies (5) and (8).

  4. Remove tee (7).

  5. Install Tool (A) (not shown) to pump drive (1) at the location (X). Attach a suitable lifting device and a hoist to Tool (A) in order to support the weight of pump drive (1).

  6. Remove four bolts (6) and the washers.

  7. Remove pump drive (1) from the frame assembly. The weight of pump drive (1) is 72.57 kg (160 lb).
