Tooling (B) is installed on the Inner Sun Gear. |
NOTICE |
---|
This f inal drive contains two sun gears. The inner sun gear must be held in place with Tooling (B). This will prevent the inner sun gear from falling out of the final drive when the planetary carriers are removed. Steps 5 and 6 are done in order to hold the inner sun gear in place. |
- Remove three equally spaced bolts that hold planetary carrier (4) to hub (5). Install Tooling (C) in the place of the three bolts, as shown.
NOTICE |
---|
Three bolts [Tooling (C) ] must be threaded in 25 mm (1 inch) in order to hold the planetary carrier. |
- Remove the remaining 26 bolts (3) that hold the planetary carrier to the hub.
- Adjust the upper bracket on Tooling (D) so that distance (X) is 203 mm (8 inch). Install lower plate (7). Install the lower plate so that the spacers are upward and so that the spacers are toward the leg of the bracket.

- Fasten a hoist, and install Tooling (D) on the planetary carrier, as shown.
- The weight of the planetary carrier is 250 kg (550 lb). Remove Tooling (C), and remove plate carrier (4) from the hub.
- Hold sun gear (6), and remove Tooling (B) from the planetary carrier.
Personal injury or death can result from not following the proper procedures. To avoid the possibility of injury or death, follow the established procedure. |
NOTICE |
---|
Sun Gear (6) will be free to fall when Tooling (B) is removed. In order to prevent possible personal injury, it is necessary to support the sun gear as Tooling (B) is removed. |
- In order to disassemble the planetary carriers, see the Disassembly And Assembly, "Final Drive Diasssemble" procedure in this module.
- Place Tooling (E) under final drive hub (5) in order to hold the hub in position when you remove retainer (9). Install Tooling (F) in order to hold ring gear (8) in position. Use the bolts that hold the planetary carriers in position to install Tooling (F) .
