The accumulator contains sealed piston (4). The sealed piston moves along the bore of the cylinder tube. Nitrogen chamber (5) is charged with nitrogen gas through charging valve (6). When the accumulator is initially charged with nitrogen (precharged state) the piston is pushed to the bottom of the cylinder tube.
The accumulator receives pressurized oil through port (2). The oil fills chamber (3). This oil forces the piston up the bore of the cylinder tube. The nitrogen in nitrogen chamber (5) is compressed until the pressure of the nitrogen reaches the cut out pressure. The accumulator charging valve then cuts off oil flow to the accumulator. Refer to Specifications, "Accumulator Charging Valve" for your machine for the cut out pressure.
When the brake pedal is depressed, oil from chamber (3) flows out of port (2). From port (2), the oil flows to the brake control valve.
