Transmission Hydraulic Control

Usage:

24H 7KK
The transmission hydraulic control regulates the amount of oil that is sent to the torque converter, the transmission clutches, and the lubrication circuits. The transmission hydraulic controls are located on top of the transmission planetary. The transmission hydraulic controls consist of the following components:

  • Solenoids (1)

  • Manifold (2)

  • Selector and pressure control valve (3)

  • HI forward selector valve (4)

  • Plate (5)

  • Speed selector valve (6)

  • HI forward directional spool and the speed selector spool (7)

Oil for the hydraulic control enters through inlet (14). The oil then flows to the selector and pressure control valve.

Oil for the operation of the torque converter flows out of outlet (16) to the torque converter.

The clutch solenoids direct oil to the ends of the selector spools. The selector spools shift directing oil in order to engage the clutches.

Oil to the clutches is sent through openings (20), (21), (22), (23), (24) and (25) in the speed selector valve. The speed selector valve is attached to the top of the planetary group.

The selector and pressure control valve is under the top cover of the transmission.

Selector spools (29), (28), (32) and (33) are shifted when oil pressure is applied to one end of the spools. Each solenoid controls oil pressure to the end of one spool. If no pilot pressure oil is acting against the end of the spools, spring force will hold the spools against the stops. Switches in the transmission control lever direct electrical signals to the transmission electronic control module (ECM). The ECM activates the solenoids that control the speed and the direction of the transmission.

Table 1
Valve     Function
(26) Converter inlet ratio spool     This valve limits the maximum pressure to the torque converter.
(27) Modulating relief spool     This valve controls the maximum pressure in the system.
(28) Direction selection spool     This valve directs the oil to a direction clutch.
(29) Speed selection spool for third speed, fourth speed, fifth speed, and sixth speed     This valve directs the oil to the No. 4 or the No. 5 clutch.
(30) Pressure differential valve     This valve keeps a pressure differential between the speed and direction clutches.
(31) Load piston     This valve controls the rate of pressure increase in the clutches.
(32) Direction selection spool     This valve directs the oil to a direction clutch.
(33) Speed selection spool for first speed and second speed     This valve directs the oil to the No. 6 clutch.
