Sleeve with an outside diameter of 76 mm. (3 inch) and a length of 76 mm. (3 inch).

Start By:

  1. Install the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".

  1. Remove the cotter and loosen the slotted nut from ballstud (2). Do not remove the slotted nut at this time.

  2. Position Tooling (E) just between the steering link and steering arm, as shown.

  3. Strike Tooling (E) with a hammer.

  4. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for the remaining ballstud.

  5. Remove the slotted nut from each ballstud (1) and position the tie rods out of the way.

  6. Remove two bolts (3) from center arm (1). Remove lock (4).

  7. Support center arm (1) with Tooling (B), as shown. Use Tooling (A) to remove pin (5) from center arm (2). Remove center arm (1) and the shims. The weight of center arm (1) is 32 kg (71 lb).

  8. Use Tooling (C) to remove sleeve bearing (6).

  9. Use Tooling (D) (not shown) to remove sleeve bearing (7).

  1. Verify that all of the components of the center arm (steering) are clean and free of foreign material prior to installation.

  2. Inspect all components for wear and replace the components, if necessary.

  3. Lower the temperature of the two sleeve bearings. Install the sleeve bearings with Tooling (A). Install the sleeve bearings even with surfaces (X) and (Y).

  4. Use Tooling (B) to put the center arm into position. The weight of the center arm is 32 kg (71 lb).

    Note: If necessary, use the shims to achieve a gap of 0.70 ± 0.60 mm (0.028 ± 0.024 inch).

  5. Use Tooling (A) to install pin (5). Orient the slot toward the slot in the center arm.

  6. Install lock (4) and the bolts that hold lock (4) into center arm (2).

  7. ApplyTooling (F) on the taper of the ballstuds. Install the ballstuds into center arm (1). Install two slotted nuts (2). Tighten slotted nuts (2) to a torque of 1360 N·m (1003 lb ft). If the holes do not line up, advance slotted nuts (2) to the next hole. Install the two cotters.

  8. Align the front wheels. Refer to Steering System Operation, Testing and Adjusting, SENR1553, "Front Wheel - Align".

End By:

  1. Remove the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
