Alternator - Remove and Install

Usage:

769D 5SS

Removal Procedure

  1. Put identification on three cable assemblies (2), (3) and (4). Disconnect cable assemblies (2), (3) and (4) from alternator (6).

  2. Loosen two nuts (1) on the rod. Move the alternator toward the engine in order to release the tension on the V-belt. Remove the V-belt from the fan on alternator (6).

  3. Remove bolt (5), the nut, and the washers from alternator (6).

  4. Remove two bolts (7) and the washers from alternator (6). Remove alternator (6) and alternator fan guard (8) from the bracket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position alternator (6), as shown. Install alternator fan guard (8). Install two bolts (7) and the washers onto the alternator.

  2. Move alternator (6) toward the engine. Install the V-belt from the fan on alternator (6).

  3. Install bolt (5), the nut, and the washer. Do not tighten bolt (5) at this time. Install two nuts (1) on the rod. Adjust the tension on the alternator V-belt. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Belts - Inspect/Adjust/Replace" for the correct procedure to apply tension to the V-belts. Tighten two nuts (1) on the rod to a torque of 13.5 ± 1.3 N·m (10 ± 1 lb ft). Tighten bolts (5) and (7).

  4. Connect cable assemblies (2), (3) and (4) to alternator (6). Tighten the nut on cable assembly (2) to a torque of 4.4 ± 1 N·m (3.2 ± 0.7 lb ft).
