Engine Crankcase Breather - Clean

Usage:

NOTICE

If the crankcase breather is not maintained on a regular basis, it can become plugged. A plugged breather will cause excessive crankcase pressure that may cause crankshaft seal leakage.

The crankcase breather is located on the left side of the engine. Use the following procedure in order to clean the crankcase breather.

  1. Raise the hood. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Compartment Hood - Raise/Lower". Remove the left engine cover. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Cover - Remove and Install".

  1. Loosen breather outlet hose clamp (1). Remove the hose from the engine crankcase breather.

  1. Remove three bolts (2) .

  1. Remove breather assembly (3) .

  1. Wash the breather in a clean, nonflammable solvent. Allow the breather to dry.

  1. Install a clean, dry breather assembly (3) .

  1. Install bolts (2) .

  1. Inspect the hoses for damage. If necessary, replace the hoses.

  1. Install the hoses and tighten clamp (1). See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Standard Torque for Worm Drive Band Hose Clamps".
