Engine Crankcase Breather - Clean

If the crankcase breather is not maintained on a regular basis, it can become plugged. A plugged breather will cause excessive crankcase pressure that may cause crankshaft seal leakage. |

The crankcase breather is located on the left side of the engine. Use the following procedure in order to clean the crankcase breather.
- Raise the hood. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Compartment Hood - Raise/Lower". Remove the left engine cover. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Cover - Remove and Install".
- Loosen breather outlet hose clamp (1). Remove the hose from the engine crankcase breather.

- Remove three bolts (2) .
- Remove breather assembly (3) .

- Wash the breather in a clean, nonflammable solvent. Allow the breather to dry.
- Install a clean, dry breather assembly (3) .
- Install bolts (2) .
- Inspect the hoses for damage. If necessary, replace the hoses.
- Install the hoses and tighten clamp (1). See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Standard Torque for Worm Drive Band Hose Clamps".
