Refrigerant AC mulai mengalir dalam sistem AC di kompresor refrigerant (1). Kompresor dirancang untuk mengubah refrigerant AC dari uap yang memiliki tekanan rendah menjadi uap yang memiliki tekanan tinggi. Juga, kompresor mengubah refrigerant dari uap dengan temperatur rendah menjadi uap dengan temperatur tinggi. Peningkatan pada tekanan menyebabkan peningkatan pada temperatur.

Refrigerant dikirim melalui koil kondensor (2). Pada koil kondensor, panas dipindahkan dari refrigerant ke udara luar. Ini mengubah refrigerant ke temperatur tinggi dan cairan tekanan tinggi.

Dari koil kondensor, refrigerant bergerak ke unit penerima-pengering (3). Di unit penerima-pengering, kelembapan dibuang dari refrigerant oleh desikan (4).

Refrigerant bergerak dari unit penerima-pengering ke katup ekspansi 90° (5) atau katup ekspansi blok (6). Di katup ekspansi, refrigerant diubah dari cairan tekanan tinggi dan temperatur tinggi ke campuran cairan dan uap tekanan rendah dan temperatur rendah.

Refrigerant tekanan rendah dan temperatur rendah bergerak ke koil evaporator (7). Sewaktu refrigerant berada di koil evaporator, refrigerant menyerap panas dari kabin. Ini mengubah refrigerant menjadi uap tekanan rendah dan temperatur rendah.

Refrigerant kembali ke kompresor dalam bentuk uap tekanan rendah dan temperatur rendah. Ini menandai akhir dari siklus aliran refrigerant. Siklus ini berulang secara kontinu.
