Warning Signs and Labels

Usage:

45 1DR
There are several specific warning signs on this machine. The exact location of the hazards and the description of the hazards are reviewed in this section. Please become familiarized with all warning signs.

Make sure that all of the warning signs are legible. Clean the warning signs or replace the warning signs if you cannot read the words. Replace the illustrations if the illustrations are not visible. When you clean the warning signs, use a cloth, water, and soap. Do not use solvent, gasoline, or other harsh chemicals to clean the warning signs. Solvents, gasoline, or harsh chemicals could loosen the adhesive that secures the warning sign. Loose adhesive will allow the warning sign to fall.

Replace any warning sign that is damaged or missing. If a warning sign is attached to a part of the machine that is replaced, install a warning sign on the replacement part. Any Caterpillar dealer can provide new warning signs.

Operator's Manual

Illustration 1g00347993

The warning sign is located on the left side of the cab.

------ WARNING! ------

Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious operator or bystander injury.

Read and understand the operator and safety instructions in the operator's manual and on the machine. Locate and understand machine control operations.

----------------------

Eye Protection

Illustration 2g00347992

The warning sign is located on the left side of the engine compartment.

------ WARNING! ------

To avoid eye injury consult shop manual before disconnecting lines, wear safety goggles. Fluid is under high pressure.

----------------------

Improperly Coupled Implements

Illustration 3g00347991

The warning sign is located on the quick hitch (if equipped).

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury could result from improperly coupled implements. Be certain latches are fully engaged on both sides before transporting or pulling the implement.

----------------------

Jump Start Cables

Illustration 4g00347990

The warning sign is located on the left side of the engine compartment.

------ WARNING! ------

Improper jumper cable connections can cause explosion resulting in personal injury.

Batteries may be located in separate compartments. When using jumper cables, always connect positive (+) cable to positive (+) terminal of battery connected to starter solenoid and negative (-) cable from external source to starter negative (-) terminal (if machine not equipped with starter negative terminal, connect to engine block.) Follow procedure in the operation manual.

----------------------

High Pressure Cylinder

Illustration 5g00347988

The warning sign is located on the track roller frame on both sides of the machine.

------ WARNING! ------

High pressure cylinder: Do not remove any parts until all hydraulic pressure has been relieved to avoid possible personal injury. To relieve pressure, slowly open bleeder valve up to one turn maximum to discharge hydraulic oil.

----------------------

Ground Speed Sensor

Illustration 6g00347989

The warning sign is located on the mounting bracket for the ground speed sensor.

------ WARNING! ------

Microwave radiation may cause eye damage. To avoid injury to eyes, do not look directly into the face of the ground speed sensor.

----------------------

Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS)

Illustration 7g00347987

The warning sign is located at the rear of the cab below the rear window.

------ WARNING! ------

Structural damage, an overturn, modification, alteration, or improper repair can impair this structure's protection capability thereby voiding this certification. Do not weld on or drill holes in the structure. Consult a Caterpillar dealer to determine this structure's limitations without voiding its certification.

----------------------

Drawbar

Illustration 8g00347986

The warning sign is located below the shield for the power take-off.

------ WARNING! ------

Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious operator or bystander injury.

  • Pull only from drawbar. Pulling from any other point can cause rear overturn.

  • Stop PTO and engine before servicing machine or changing implements.

  • Do not operate with unshielded PTO.

  • Use safety chains to tow equipment.

  • Position drawbar at 16 inches from the end of 1000 rpm PTO shaft with 1.38 dia. (35 mm) and 20 inches with 1.75 dia. (44.5 mm) to drawbar hole.

----------------------

Three-Point Hitch Control

Illustration 9g00347985

The warning sign is located on both rear fenders.

------ WARNING! ------

To avoid injury do not stand on or between implement and machine while operating lift control.

----------------------

Machine Movement

Illustration 10g00347984

The warning sign is located on the starter solenoid.

------ WARNING! ------

To avoid injury from machine movement disengage transmission and engage handbrake before bypassing safety start switch or starter solenoid or before attaching battery booster cables.

----------------------

Transmission

Illustration 11g00347983

The warning sign is located on the right side console in front of the transmission control lever.

------ WARNING! ------

Always engage parking brake before dismounting. Transmission will not prevent machine from rolling when engine is shut off.

----------------------

Accumulator

Illustration 12g00347982

The warning sign is located on the accumulator on the undercarriage.

------ WARNING! ------

Pressurized Vessel

  • Use dry nitrogen gas only

  • Special equipment required for testing and charging

  • See service instructions for additional information

  • Precharge pressure 13790 kPa (2000 psi)

----------------------

Engine Shutdown

Illustration 13g00347981

The warning sign is located above the right side console.

------ WARNING! ------

If instrument panel flashes "STOP" and continuous alarm sounds, then within 30 seconds the engine automatically will shutdown unless corrective action is taken.

Failure to stop or override the automatic shutdown system will cause loss of steering control and power-assist to brakes possibly resulting personal injury. Without engine power this tractor will not steer.

Override automatic engine shutdown and drive to a safe location to stop by depressing the red top of the override switch to the right of the steering column. Only use the override switch to drive far enough to avoid a dangerous situation, such as traffic.

Proceed to a safe stopping area, stop the engine, determine the cause of the shutdown alarm, and take corrective action.

----------------------

Draft Control

Illustration 14g00347980

------ WARNING! ------

To avoid injury from unintentional hitch movement, always set the position/draft sensitivity knob to position 1, the full position control setting, (fully counterclockwise detent) when not using draft control, such as when working near the hitch and attached implements, or when transporting or roading equipment.
