The Electrical System Is Inoperative

The Electrical System Is Inoperative.    
Cause     Solution    
The connections to the batteries are loose or corroded.     Clean the connections or tighten the connections.    
The batteries are sulfated.     Check the battery circuit for a minimum of 12.5 Volts. Recharge the batteries or replace the batteries.    

The Speed of the Starter is Low and the Engine Cranks Slowly

Cause     Solution    
The connections to the batteries are loose or corroded.     Clean the connections and tighten the connections.    
The output of the batteries is low.     Check the battery circuit for a minimum of 12.5 Volts. Recharge the batteries or replace the batteries.    
The viscosity of the engine oil is incorrect.     Use the correct viscosity of engine oil for the current temperature.    

The Starter Is Inoperative

Cause     Solution    
The transmission control is in gear.     Place the transmission control into the NEUTRAL position.    
The connections to the batteries are loose or corroded.     Clean the connections or tighten the connections.    
The batteries are dead.     Recharge the batteries or replace the batteries.    

The Charge Indicator Stays On When the Engine Is Running

Cause     Solution    
The engine idle speed is low.     Increase the idle speed.    
The alternator belt is loose.     Check the belt tension. If the belt tension is low, adjust the belt tension.    
The batteries are malfunctioning.     Check the battery circuit for a minimum of 12.5 Volts. Recharge the batteries or replace the batteries.    
The alternator is malfunctioning.     Consult any Caterpillar dealer. (1)

The Batteries Will Not Charge

Cause     Solution    
The connections to the batteries are loose or corroded.     Clean the connections and tighten the connections.    
The batteries are sulfated.     Check the battery circuit for a minimum of 12.5 Volts. Recharge the batteries or replace the batteries.    
The alternator belt is loose.     Check the belt tension. If the belt tension is low, adjust the belt tension.    

The Flashing Charge Indicator Indicates Excessive Charging Voltage
