CID 0617 FMI 03 Magnetic Switch (Air Inlet Heater Relay) Voltage Above Normal - Test

Air Inlet Heater Relay Magnetic Switch Schematic

CID 0617 FMI 03 service code is recorded when the power train electronic control module (ECM) reads the voltage of the air inlet heater relay circuit as above normal (short to +battery).

Note: Ensure that the CID 0617 FMI 03 fault that is being analyzed is on hold. Ensure that the fault present indicator is ON.

  1. Check for a short to the +battery.

    1. Disconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the power train ECM.

    1. Check for continuity from connector contact J2-19 to contact J1-1 (+battery).

    1. Switch the various power circuits in the cab on and off during this test in order to check for a short from the headlights, the heater, etc.

      Expected Result: Continuity is NOT present.

      Results:

      • YES - Continuity is NOT present. The harness for the relay is not shorted to the +battery. Proceed to Step 2.

      • NO - Continuity is present. The harness for the relay is shorted to the +battery. Repair the harness or replace the harness. STOP.

  1. Check for a short to another solenoid output.

    1. Check for continuity from connector contact J2-19 to the other solenoid outputs J1-17 Clutch 1, J1-11 Clutch 2, J2-7 Clutch 3, J2-1 Clutch 4, J2-8 Clutch 5, J2-2 Clutch 6, J1-12 Ride Control, J1-18 Ride Control and J1-10 Dual Horsepower.

      Expected Result: Continuity is NOT present.

      Results:

      • YES - Continuity is NOT present. The harness circuit for the relay is correct. Inspect the harness connector contacts. Connect the harness connectors to the power train ECM. Make sure that the fault present indicator is on. Check the power train ECM for the CID 0617 FMI 03 fault. If the fault is present, the power train ECM is faulty. Replace the power train ECM. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (Power Train) - Replace" for more information on replacing the power train ECM. STOP.

      • NO - Continuity is present. The harness for the relay is shorted. Repair the harness or replace the harness. STOP.
