SUBJECT: INCORRECT BELT TENSION ON THE SOIL COMPACTORS HAS CAUSED BELTS TO HAVE A SHORTER SERVICE LIFE
PROBLEM:
If both belts are not tensioned correctly, the belt with the higher tension will carry the load until the belt stretches and this will severely shorten service life of belt. The belt with the lower tension could come off of the pulley and cause both belts to break.
SOLUTION:
Belts should be installed in pairs.
Installing New Belts.
- Set the initial tension to 135+/-15 lbs on both belts.
- Run the machine for 30 minutes.
- Allow the belts to cool.
- Check the tension on both belts to be sure that both belts are 100+/-10 lbs.
- Readjust as required.
