Jacket Water Heater Caterpillar

Jacket Water Heater

Usage:

ARTICULATED TRUCKSD350E Series II (2XW),
D400E Series II (8PS) ARTICULATED TRUCKS

Problem:

Customer was having problems installing the Jacket Water Heater.

Solution:

A solution to this problem is to modify the 2P-2772 Cover (1) mounted on the 6N-0367 Oil Cooler Bonnet. These components are part of the 143-9161 Water Lines Group. Drain the cooling system to a level below the oil cooler bonnet. Loosen the two bolts securing the cover to the oil cooler bonnet and remove the cover and the 4N-0933 Gasket. Discard the gasket.

Drill a 3/4 inch hole in the center of the 2P-2772 Cover. Weld 9L-0454 Coupling to the outside of the 2P-2772 Cover.

Install a 9G-6657 120V Element into the cover with the tubes of the element protruding through the cover. Use 5P-3413 Sealant on the threads of the element.

Install the cover and a new gasket onto the oil cooler bonnet. Ensure that the tubes of the element are not in contact with the inside of the oil cooler bonnet.

Secure the cover to the oil cover bonnet using the two existing bolts and washers. Install a 9N-5253 Cord for 120V. Refill the cooling system to the required level.

NOTE: This solution is for a 120V unit only. The 240V unit is being tested and will be released in the near future.
