PROBLEM
New power train system software, implement system software, engine software and Messenger software needs to be installed on certain 16M Motor Graders. The Operation and Maintenance Manual needs to be replaced. SOFTWARE CHANGES Power Train: - Improvement to add a new machine travel speed matching shift strategy when shifting out of a neutral state - Implementation of a Limited Inching pedal strategy to limit modulation in higher gears - Improvement to add an anti-stall protection strategy that will auto shift to Neutral during low rpm operation in a selected gear in order to reduce engine stalls and to minimize potential transmission torsional coupler damage - Revised Autolube low pressure event strategy to allow programmed pressure threshold activation values - Improvement to add a new machine travel speed matching shift strategy when shifting out of a neutral state - Implementation of a Limited Inching pedal strategy to limit modulation in higher gears Implement: - Improvement to support Advanced Control Joystick operation - Improvement to allow individual implement functions to be locked out - Improvement to add a Blade Rotation Angle Limit feature - Reduction of unnecessary activations of the secondary steering pump - Reduction of nuisance steering system event codes - Improved strategy for secondary steering pump operation to allow automatic pump shutdowns under certain machine conditions - Improvement to provide greater proportional control of the ripper - Improvement to provide greater proportional control of machine articulation - Improvement to enable machine articulation electronic stops with snubbing to minimize frame wear - Improvement to add a new configurable ripper auto stow feature Engine - Implementation of a Working Low Idle strategy that maintains an elevated low idle when the machine is in gear - Addition of a new Optimum Power setting that enables a working torque level in each gear for optimum performance and durability - Improvement for a new rpm based torque curve adjustment to provide operator awareness that a downshift is needed in order to avoid potential transmission torsional coupler damage |

ACTION REQUIRED
The latest power train system software, implement system software, engine software and the Messenger software for the 16M Motor Grader need to be updated at the same time to ensure compatability between the steering system controls and to provide the greatest benefit. 1.) Flash the software that is listed in the Parts Needed table, or the latest released software in SIS, on the appropriate ECMs. The supported languages in each Messenger software group are listed below: Group 1 - English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German Group 2 - English, Portuguese, Danish, Finnish, Swedish Group 3 - English, Portuguese, Italian, Greek, Hebrew Group 4 - English, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic Group 5 - English, Portuguese, Romanian, Indonesian, Ukrainian Group 6 - English, Portuguese, Dutch, Norwegian, Slovenian Group 7 - English, Portuguese, Dutch, Chinese, Turkish 2.) In order to provide greater durability to drive train components, in the Transmission Chassis ECM configuration menu, configure the "Inching Pedal Neutralizer Enable Status" to "Enabled". 3.) In order to provide greater durability to drive train components, in the Engine ECM configuration menu, configure the "Engine Idle Speed Management Enable Status" to "Enabled". 4.) A factory password is required to enable the "Number of Available Engine Power Levels" configuration of the engine power level. In order to provide greater durability to engine and drive train components, obtain a factory password and enable the configuration. A window will indicate that there is a charge for the factory password. However, no charges will be invoiced for this factory password SEA on 16M models. Set the "Number of Available Engine Power Levels" setting to "6" which is the new "Optimum" power setting. 5.) Order a replacement Operation and Maintenance Manual (OMM) in the required language for each 16M Motor Grader in your territory. Order the replacement OMM via the Caterpillar Media Information System. Refer to your Media Ordering Administrator to order the new manual. All updated OMMs are Revision 20 or higher.
