Usage:
HH55 (3MZ),
HH65 (4RZ),
HH75 (5WZ) Harvester Heads
Description of Change: The addition of the 156-4139 Hose Assembly reduces the load on the lubrication pump, therefore increasing the system life. The new 156-4139 Hose Assembly is effective with HH55 (3MZ214-Up), HH65 (4RZ261-Up), and HH75 (5WZ234-Up) Harvester Heads. The hose assembly is adaptable to first production of all harvester heads listed.
Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.
Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.
Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.
To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the hydraulic system.

NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Modification Procedure:
1. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep other personnel away from the machine and harvester head.
2. Park the machine on a smooth, level surface. Move away from other operating machines and away from personnel. Tilt the harvester head into the HORIZONTAL position. Lower the head to the ground.
3. Engage the parking brake. Place blocks in front of the wheels or tracks. Place blocks behind the wheels or tracks.
4. Install the steering frame lock so that the machine cannot articulate. Install the cab lock pin.
5. Turn the attachment switch to the OFF position. Stop the engine by turning the engine start switch key to the OFF position.
6. Move the control levers through the full range of travel.
7. In order to relieve all of the pressure in the hydraulic oil tank, slowly loosen the filler cap.
Harvester Head Valve Cover
8. To remove the valve cover unfasten buckles (3). Remove nuts (2). Unfasten latches (1).
NOTE: The valve cover on the HH55 and HH65 weighs approximately 77 kg (35 lb). The valve cover on the HH75 weighs approximately 143 kg (65 lb). Two people may be required to remove the valve cover.
9. Slide the valve cover off the harvester head.
Left Side of the Hydraulic Control Valve (HH65 Shown)
To relieve the oil pressure in the harvester head, attach a wrench at the three o'clock position to one of the studs shown in the previous photo. Slowly turn the wrench until the wrench is at the six o'clock position. Slowly turn the wrench until the wrench is at the twelve o'clock position.
10. Repeat Step 10 for each stud on the hydraulic control valve. The HH55 Harvester Head and HH65 Harvester Head have seven studs. The HH75 Harvester Head has eight studs.
11. Disconnect the 156-0986 Fitting (5) from the 156-0985 Adapter (4) on both 156-0988 Needle Valves (6).
12. Remove the two 156-0988 Needle Valves (6) from the 156-0987 Block (7).
13. Route both the 156-0990 Hose Assemblies (13) underneath the 156-0997 Hose Assembly (8) and the 156-1249 Hose Assembly (16).
14. Connect the first 156-0988 Needle Valve (15) to the bottom port of the 156-0987 Block (14).
15. Connect the second 156-0988 Needle Valve (15) to the 156-0987 Block (14) with a 156-0995 Elbow (12).
16. Connect the new 156-4139 Hose Assembly (9) to the 156-0987 Block (14) with one 6V-0405 Seal and one 156-0985 Fitting.
17. Connect the opposite end of the 156-4139 Hose Assembly (9) to the 156-0982 Lubrication Pump (10) using one 6V-0405 Seal and one 156-0985 Fitting.
