Low Coolant Level Plate In Radiator May Cause False Coolant Level Readings {1353}

Usage:

3304 (02B, 04B),
3304B (10E),
3306 (09A, 23C, 66D),
3306B (64Z),
3116 (2WG, 4PG) Industrial Engines

Some 2N-0254 and 2N-0256 Radiator Groups on the above engines may have a low coolant level plate that is "U" shaped. See the illustration. This will allow coolant to stand on the plate. This could result in a false coolant level reading that is higher than the actual level.

Radiator Top Tank (1), Filler Neck (2), Coolant Level Plate (3), (A) Location to drill 3/16inch hole through plate (3).

To prevent this problem, drill a 3/16inch hole through the low coolant level plate. Be sure to remove the chips caused by the drilling operation. This hole will allow the coolant to drain out of the plate when the coolant level is below the plate.

Refer to the appropriate Operation And Maintenance Manual for the correct coolant level.
