Various radios are available for parts service. Confusion exists as to when to use which radio.

The attached listing summarizes all parts service radios. The circuit colors used on machines wired for a radio may not match those of the radio listed in the chart.

Challenger C-series tractors are now shipped without a radio. The cab is "radio ready" for insertion of a radio in the field. The preferred radio group is 3E-7140 or (3E-6107 for Europe). (These part numbers supersede present parts book information). Install a 9U-8263 Cover when a radio is not used. Effective Challenger serial numbers without radios, but where the cab is ready for one: Challenger 65C-2ZJ1-Up and Challenger 75C-4KK1-Up.

The 12 Volt rated radios will need a 24V to 12V converter for use on 24 Volt machines. Do not center-tap a 24 Volt battery set to obtain 12 Volts. Center-tapping shortens battery life. Radios rated 24 Volts have a built-in 24V to 12V Converter.

The DIN quick-release (QR) radios are serviced with a DIN Sleeve using a quick disconnect connector for the radio to plug into. The DIN Sleeve has a pigtail connector to mate the machine harness as the wiring diagrams show. The quick release DIN sleeve is only serviced with radios shown as "DIN QR".

Radios that are installed into cabs not designed for radios should PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO SHOCK AND VIBRATION. Always mount to minimize shock and vibration. Radios should not be hard mounted in earth moving equipment. An after market radio kit will soon be announced that includes a shock mounted enclosure with a built in DIN Sleeve.
