Description of Change: Bronze side gear and pinion thrust washers are available for use in the 9C9772 Differential Group, part of the 9C2207 Differential And Bevel Gear Group. In some applications the former thrust washers were susceptible to scoring and early wear. The new side gear thrust washers are held in place with dowels. The former washers were held in place by four tangs.
New bearings can also be installed in the pinion gears of the differential at this time. The new bearings are an aluminum bronze material. They are pressed onto the pinion gears.
The older bearings were made of steel. They were installed with a slip fit.
Adaptable To: If the present differential group is in good condition, it can be reworked to use the new washers and bearings. It will be necessary to install four dowels to use the new 8X9498 Washers. The illustrations show the position of the dowels. The chart provides the new and old part numbers.

The bearing must not extend past either end of the pinion at location (D).
NOTE: Lightly coat the pinion thrust face and length (X) with MPGM 5P0960 Grease.
