Fuel Injection Pump, Accessory Drive Housing And Governor

Usage:

Remove Fuel Injection Pump, Accessory Drive Housing And Governor As A Unit

1. Remove the coolant from engine cooling system.

2. Turn crankshaft to top center on compression stroke for No. 1 piston with tooling (A). See FINDING TOP CENTER COMPRESSION POSITION FOR NO. 1 PISTON in TESTING AND ADJUSTING SECTION.

3. Remove water lines (1) and (8) from aftercooler.

4. Remove fuel supply line (5) and return line (4).

5. Remove fuel line (3) for fuel priming pump.

6. Remove vent lines (6) and (7). Disconnect fuel injection lines (2) and install protection caps.

7. Remove cover from flywheel housing for accessory drive gear.

8. Remove the nut and lock that hold gear on shaft. Remove accessory drive gear with tool (B).

9. Remove one of the four bolts that holds the fuel filter base. Install a 3/8"-16NC forged eyebolt where the bolt was removed.

10. Fasten a hoist and tooling (C) to accessory drive housing and adapter housing as shown.

11. Remove three bolts (9) from support bracket. Remove bolts (10) and (11).

12. Remove the pump and drive housing as a unit. Weight of unit is 260 lb. (118 kg).

Install Fuel Injection Pump, Accessory Drive Housing And Governor As A Unit

1. Put the pump and drive housing in place on engine with tool (A) and a hoist. Install bolts that hold unit to engine.

2. Remove cover (1) from accessory drive housing. Turn camshaft for injection pump and install timing pin (2).

3. Check position of crankshaft, it must be at top center on compression stroke for No. 1 piston. Turn crankshaft with tooling (B). See FINDING TOP CENTER COMPRESSION POSITION FOR NO. 1 PISTON in TESTING AND ADJUSTING SECTION.

4. Heat accessory drive gear (3) to a temperature of 300°F (149°C). Install gear, lock and nut on accessory drive shaft.

5. After gear is cold, tighten nut to a torque of 325 ± 25 lb. ft. (440 ± 35 N·m).

6. Install cover on flywheel housing.

7. Connect fuel injection lines (5). Tighten nuts to 30 ± 5 lb. ft. (40 ± 7 N·m). Install bolt in fuel filter base.

8. Install vent lines (9) and (10).

9. Install fuel line (6) for fuel priming pump.

10. Install fuel supply line (8) and return line (7).

11. Install water lines (4) and (11) to aftercooler.

12. Fill engine cooling system with coolant.

a) check timing of camshaft for fuel injection pump. See TIMING CAMSHAFT FOR FUEL INJECTION PUMP in TESTING AND ADJUSTING SECTION.
