Fuel Injection Pump Housing

Usage:

Remove Fuel Injection Pump Housing

start by:

a) remove fuel transfer pump adapter housing

1. Turn crankshaft to top center on compression stroke for No. 1 piston with tooling (A). See FINDING TOP CENTER COMPRESSION POSITION FOR NO. 1 PISTON in TESTING AND ADJUSTING SECTION.

2. Disconnect fuel injection lines (1) and install protective caps.

3. Remove cover (2) from drive housing.

4. Pull out on retainer (4) and disconnect rack bar (3) from governor.

5. Fasten a hoist to the injection pump housing.

6. Remove the nuts and washers that hold the injection pump housing to drive housing.

7. Remove injection pump housing. Weight of injection pump housing is 80 lb. (36 kg).

Install Fuel Injection Pump Housing

1. Check the position of crankshaft. It must be at top center of compression stroke for No. 1 piston.

2. Turn injection pump camshaft so timing notch will be in alignment with timing pin when pump housing is installed.

3. Put injection pump housing (1) in place on drive housing and install nuts and washers.

4. Connect rack bar to governor control arm.

5. Connect the fuel injection lines (2) and tighten the nuts to 30 ± 5 lb. ft. (40 ± 7 N·m) of torque.

6. Check timing of chamshaft for fuel injection pump. See TIMING CAMSHAFT FOR FUEL INJECTION PUMP in TESTING AND ADJUSTING SECTION.

7. Install cover on drive housing.

Disassemble Fuel Injection Pump Housing

start by:

a) remove fuel injection pump housing

1. Remove covers (1) and (2) from pump housing.

2. Remove bolts (3) and clamps (4) that hold injection pumps to pump housing.

3. Remove injection pumps (5) from pump housing.

4. Remove pump plungers (6) from pump housing.

5. Remove clip (7) and rack (8).

6. Remove yokes (9) from lifters (10).

7. Turn camshaft until lifter (10) is at top of stroke. Install bolts (11) and washers (12) which are tooling (A). Tighten bolts to pull lifter away from camshaft.

8. Remove nut (13), lock and washer (14) from camshaft.

9. Remove camshaft (15) from pump housing.

------ WARNING! ------

Lifters are under spring tension.

--------WARNING!------

10. Remove bolts from lifters (17) and remove lifters (17) and springs (16).

11. Remove rack bearings from pump housing with tooling (B).

12. Remove camshaft bearings from pump housing with tool group (C).

Assemble Fuel Injection Pump Housing

1. Install camshaft bearings with tool group (A).

2. Install rack bearings with tooling (B).

3. Install lifters (2) and springs (1) in pump housing. Install bolts and washers, tooling (A), and pull lifters into housing.

4. Install camshaft (3) and remove bolts and washers.

5. Install washer (4), lock and nut on camshaft. Tighten nut to 40 ± 5 lb. ft. (55 ± 7 N·m).

6. Remove bevel gear from camshaft and install timing plate (6) and pointer (5) from tool group (D).

7. Install locknut and yoke (7) in the lifter. Do not tighten the locknut at this time.

8. Make an adjustment to the lifters in numerical order as shown in the chart below and as follows:

a) Turn the plate (6) clockwise to the 10° mark. Make an adjustment to yoke (7) until distance between top pump housing and yoke is 2.156 to 2.157 in. (54.76 to 54.79 mm). Hold the yoke in position with a wrench from tool group (D) and tighten the locknut.

b) Turn the plate (6) clockwise from the 10° mark to the 130° mark. Make an adjustment to the yoke as in step a.

c) Turn the plate (6) clockwise from the 130° mark to the 250° mark. Make an adjustment to the yoke as in step a.

d) Turn the plate (6) clockwise from the 250° mark to the 70° mark. Make an adjustment to the yoke as in step a.

e) Turn the plate (6) clockwise from the 70° mark to the 310° mark. Make an adjustment to the yoke as in step a.

f) Turn the plate (6) clockwise from the 310° mark to the 190° mark. Make an adjustment to the yoke as in step a.

9. Install rack (9) and injection pump plunger (8) in pump housing.

NOTICE

The plunger and body of injection pumps have a special fit with each other and can not be used with other plungers or bodies.

10. When injection pump plunger is in place, the mark (10) on gear tooth must be in alignment with mark (11) on rack.

11. Install injection pump body (12) on plunger.

12. Install clamps (13) and covers on pump housing.

end by:

a) install injection pump housing
