Flywheel

Usage:

Remove & Install Flywheel

1. Fasten a hoist and tooling (A) to flywheel (1).

2. Remove two bolts (2), and install two 1" - 14 NF guide bolts approximately 203 mm (8 in) long.

3. Remove the remainder of bolts (2), and remove flywheel (1). The weight of the flywheel is 140 kg (310 lb).

4. If necessary, remove ring gear (3) from flywheel (1).

NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the flywheel.

5. If ring gear (3) was removed from the flywheel, heat the ring gear to a maximum temperature of 320°C (608°F). Install ring gear (3) on flywheel (1) with the tooth chamfer toward the engine when the flywheel is installed.

6. Install two 1" - 14 NC guide bolts approximately 203 mm (8 in) long in the end of the crankshaft.

7. Fasten a hoist and tooling (A) to flywheel (1).

NOTE: Make sure the mark on the flywheel is aligned with the mark on the crankshaft when the flywheel is installed.

8. Put flywheel (1) in position on the guide bolts.

9. Put clean SAE 30 oil on the threads of bolts (2). Install 12 bolts (2) to hold the flywheel in place.

10. Remove the hoist and tooling (A) and the guide bolts, and install the remaining bolts (2). Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 800 N·m (590 lb ft).

11. Check the flywheel runout. Refer to the Systems Operation/Testing & Adjusting module and the Specifications module for this information.
