Usage:
Start by:
a. remove right tie rod
Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
NOTE: Front axle removed for better photographic illustration
NOTE: For additional clarity and reference information, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR3578, "Steering Cylinder (Front) - Remove and Install".
1. Disconnect tie rods from both sides of the steering cylinder rod (1).
2. Remove spanner nut (2) and washer (3).
3. Remove steering cylinder assembly (4) from axle housing.
4. Remove retainer ring (5) and pull steering cylinder rod (1) from steering cylinder assembly (4).
5. Remove O-rings (7) and seals (6) from steering cylinder assembly (4).
6. Remove guide (8) from steering cylinder rod (1).
7. Remove O-ring (9), guide ring (10), grooved ring (11) and scraper ring (12) from guide (8).
8. Remove guide (13) and O-rings (14) from steering cylinder rod (1).
NOTE: Assembly of guide (13) on rod (1) should be in the same position as disassembly.
NOTE: Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.
