NOTE: This Program can be administered either before or after failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS40175" as the Part number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

NOTE: This Revised Service Letter replaces the April 13, 2000 (Revised June 2000) Service Letter. Changes have been made to the Problem, Affected Product, and Rating Selection Number Changes.

PROBLEM

Certain Industrial 3406E engines have incorrect PTO resume strategy which may cause resumed speed to be 20-40rpm less than programmed, ECM ?totals? strategy calculates incorrect values, J1939 is not handling correctly requests for Aux Temp and Pressure, a coolant temp faulted value and lack of logging an event occurrence.

ACTION REQUIRED

Flash the engine control module (ECM) with the appropriate flash file software using Electronic Technician (ET), 1394166 Universal Cable and a 7X1701 Communication Adapter or 1714400 Comm II Adapter Group. NOTE: Some OEM equipment may require specific High and Low Idle, TEL, Power Trim, and others to be set to value(s)other than what was shipped from the factory or as indicated in TMI. Verify these and any settings prior to flashing the ECM through the customer configuration using ET and with the OEM. Failure to correctly set these values can cause equipment failure. See the attached Rating Selection Number Changes.

NOTE: The engine rating number selection scheme has been revised for 3406E only. VERIFY THAT THE CORRECT HORSEPOWER SELECTION has been made after flashing the ECM is completed. This can be determined through ET from the Service Menu under Configuration. Check the horsepower rating and not just the rating number. The following '2T' spec reflects the Rating Selection Number changes for 3406E only:
