NOTE: This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS4200" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

Some 3406 Engine Generator Sets have been shipped with the corners of the radiator fan and pulley guards not welded. If the corners are not welded, the vibration while running may cause the guards to crack.

Rework Procedure
1. Before working on the engine, disconnect and tape the battery negative, or make sure that the starting motor can not be activated by any automatic or manual signal.
2. Remove the 1421538 Pulley Guard (RH), the 1421535 Fan Guard (RH), the 1436918 Alternator Closing Guard, the 1421536 Pulley Guard (LH), the 1421537 Pulley Guard (Lower LH), and the 1421534 Fan Guard (LH).
3. Weld a 2mm fillet weld on the inside at the corners as shown on the enclosed drawings.
NOTE: If any of the guards have developed severe cracking in the corners to be welded, the guard should be replaced.
4. Clean-up the welds and the area around the welds. Paint the welded areas with Caterpillar yellow paint.
5. Re-install all of the guards.
