August 17, 1997 (Revised November 1997) U-240 A-210 S-112 O-208 AFTER FAILURE PRODUCT SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR INSTALLING AN ONLY IMPROVED HEINZMANN ACTUATOR ON CERTAIN G3606, G3608, G3612, AND G3616 GAS ENGINES 0520 PS5304 NOTE: This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs. The decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS5304" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code. NOTE: This Revised Service Letter replaces the August 17, 1997 Service Letter. Changes have been made to the Parts Needed.

Problem
A new Heinzmann actuator has been released that will improve reliability. The changes made to the actuator will incorporate improvements to the heat sink, electrical insulation, mounting of the power supply diode, corrosion protection of the magnet, bronze bushing on the output shaft, and cover seal to better protect the internal components from the environment.

Action Required
1. Shutdown the engine and remove the power. 2. Disconnect the linkage and electrical connections from the actuator. 3. Install the remanufactured actuator and reconnect the linkage and electrical connections. NOTE: Refer to the engine Service Manual for proper instructions for the calibrations required when installing a new part.

The failed actuator should be returned to: Caterpillar Inc. Attn: Ralph Munguia/Bldg B-Claims Room 3701 State Road 26 East Lafayette, Indiana 47905 A copy of the service report should accompany each returned actuator. Handle all other parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling.
