NOTE: This Program can be administered either before or after failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS4885" as the Part number and "7755" as the Group Number. If adminstered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If adminstered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

NOTE: The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.

NOTE: THIS SERVICE LETTER DOES NOT APPLY TO THOSE TRACTORS PREVIOUSLY REWORKED WITH THE IMPROVED 1357462/">135-7462 STEERING CONTROL VALVE UNDER A PREVIOUS SERVICE LETTER.

NOTE: This Revised Service Letter replaces the June 9, 1999 (Revised May 2001) Service Letter. Changes have been made to add the above NOTE.

PROBLEM

One or both of the following conditions may exist with the steering control on certain Challenger 35, 45, and 55 Tractors:

The steering effort in one direction is noticeably greater than the effort in the opposite direction.
Steering causes an objectionable noise.

The steering control can be replaced with an improved design.
