Specifications For Reconditioning Of Final Drive Inner And Outer Housings{4052,4059,4062}

Usage:

Series "
G"
Motor Graders

Many dealers have desired specifications information for reconditioning of final drive inner and outer housings on Series "G" Motor Graders. The inner housing has the seal groove, and the outer housing has the contact surface, for the tandem oscillation seal.

Dimensions to machine final drive outer housing. Specifications for these dimensions are shown in the chart, "Specifications For Outer Housing".

The charts give the specifications for the different dimensions shown in the illustrations, according to the motor grader model and/or serial number. The seal contact surface from (C) to (D) in the outer housing must be polished (made very smooth) to a surface finish of 0.81 micrometer (32 microinch). This will permit the seal to slide easily during tandem oscillation, with a minimum of seal wear. The specifications shown for the seal groove are for the latest type seal. Earlier designs used a groove (6.68 ± 0.13 mm (.263 ± .005") wide at the bottom, with 6° tapered sides. For more information about seal and housing changes, see the article "Changes Made To Final Drive Group To Give Less End-Play In The Oscillation Joint" on Pages 3-6 of the December 24, 1979 Service Magazine.
