Usage:
824C Wheel Tractors, 825C And 826C Compactors
It is not possible to use existing puller tools to remove the steering cylinder clevis pins on the above machines for two reasons:
-
- 1. The location of the steering cylinder rear mounting brackets on the vehicle frame.
- 2. The tapered pins have no puller holes.
- 1. The location of the steering cylinder rear mounting brackets on the vehicle frame.
New puller tools for pin removal include the FT1578 Puller Bars (upper and lower), two 5P4776 Puller Studs, two 1A1935 Nuts and two 3K5234 Washers. These tools are used with the 5P2997 Hydraulic Puller.
To install the tools, remove the bolt and retainer. See Illustration 1. Install the bolt in the pin without the retainer. Install the tools as shown in Illustration 2.

The hydraulic force of the puller will cause a force against the bolt. This force will push the tapered pin from the bore. A recess (opening) in the puller lets the pin move into the puller a small amount until the pin is loose. The pin can then be removed by hand.
Drawings of the FT1578 Puller Bars are available from your Division Service Manager.
