Lift Arms - Install

Usage:

Installation Procedure

NOTE: Check the condition of all seals and of all parts. If any components are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Be sure that the bores in the lift arm assembly are clean and free of dirt and debris prior to installation of the sleeve bearings and lip seals.

1. Use Tooling (E) to install the sleeve bearings in the bucket pin bores of the lift arm assembly. Make sure that the bearings are centered in the bores.

2. Put 7M-7456 Compound in the lip seal bores of the lift arm assembly. Use Tooling (A) to install the lip seals on each side of the bucket pin bores. Install the lip of the seals away from the bearings.

3. Use Tooling (D) to install the sleeve bearings in the lift cylinder pin bores of the lift arm assembly. Make sure that the bearings are centered in the bores.

4. Put 7M-7456 Compound in the lip seal bores of the lift arm assembly. Use Tooling (A) to install the lip seals on each side of the lift cylinder pin bores. Install the lip of the seals away from the bearings.

5. Use Tooling (C) to install the sleeve bearings in the lift arm pivot pin bores. Make sure that the bearings are centered in the bores.

6. Put 7M-7456 Compound in the lip seal bores of the lift arm assembly. Use Tooling (A) to install the lip seals on each side of the pivot pin bores. Install the lip of the seals away from the bearings.

7. Be sure that all pins and pin bores are clean and free of dirt and debris. Lubricate the bores and the pins with 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease prior to installation. Put 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the inside and outside diameters of all collets before assembly.

8. Install tilt lever (41) and tilt link (42) on the lift arm assembly. For the correct procedure, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tilt Lever and Tilt Link - Install" for the machine that is being serviced.

9. Attach a hoist, Tooling (B), suitable lifting slings and chains to lift arm assembly (34), as shown.

10. Use the hoist to install lift arm assembly (34), the tilt lever and the tilt link together as a unit. The combined weight of lift arm assembly (34), the tilt lever and the tilt link is 3710 kg (8180 lb).

11. Attach a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to lift arm pin (37). Align the bores of the front loader frame and the lift arms and install the pin and the shim(s) (if required). The weight of the lift arm pin is 52 kg (115 lb).

12. Install collets (36) on each side of the lift arm pin assembly.

13. Put 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of bolt (35). Install bolt (35), the nut and the washers in the lift arm pin assembly.

NOTE: The collet on one side must not extend farther than the other collet when the bolt and nut are tight.

14. Tighten the bolt and the nut that hold the collets to the lift arm pin as follows:

a. Tighten bolt (35) and the nut evenly to a torque of 1800 ± 200 N·m (1330 ± 150 lb ft). After the bolt and the nut are tight, hit the collets on each side with a heavy hammer until the torque on the bolt and the nut is less than 950 N·m (700 lb ft).

b. Tighten bolt (35) and the nut again to a torque of 1800 ± 200 N·m (1330 ± 150 lb ft). Hit each collet again until the torque for the bolt and the nut is less than 1600 N·m (1180 lb ft).

c. Tighten bolt (35) and the nut to a final torque of 1800 ± 200 N·m (1330 ± 150 lb ft).

NOTE: At the end of 50 service hours, tighten the bolt and the nut that hold the collets to the lift arm pin as in Steps 14a through 14c.

15. Repeat Steps 11 through 14 in order to install the other lift arm pin and collet assembly.

16. Connect the wiring harness to the lift arm light at terminal (32).

17. Install four suitable cable straps (33) to hold the wiring harness to the lift arms.

18. Repeat Steps 16 and 17 for the wiring harness to the light on the other side of the lift arms.

19. Install covers (30) and (31) on the lift arm assembly.

20. Install two bolts (13) and the washers that hold the lubrication bulkheads on each side of the front loader frame.

21. Connect lubrication hose assembly (14) to the bulkheads on each side of the front loader frame.

22. Install a suitable cable strap (15) to hold the lubrication hose assemblies to the front loader frame.

NOTE: Perform Steps 23 through 36 to machines equipped with the optional automatic lubrication system.

23. Install lubrication injector manifold (26) and the hose assemblies in the front loader frame.

24. Install two bolts (25) and the washers.

25. Connect lubrication hose assembly (24) to injector manifold (26).

26. Connect lubrication hose assembly (23) to the bottom of the bulkhead on the right side of the front loader frame.

27. Install two bolts (21) and the washers that hold the harness clips and the bulkhead to the front loader frame.

28. Install bolt (22), the washer and the hose clip.

29. Connect five lubrication hose assemblies (20) to the bulkhead.

30. Install suitable cable straps (28) and (29) to hold the lubrication hose assemblies to the right side of the front loader frame.

31. Connect lubrication hose assembly (19) to the bottom of the bulkhead on the left side of the front loader frame.

32. Install two bolts (17) and the washers that hold the harness clips and the bulkhead to the front loader frame.

33. Install bolt (18), the washer and the hose clip.

34. Connect four lubrication hose assemblies (16) to the bulkhead.

35. Install a suitable cable strap (27) to hold the lubrication hose assemblies to the left side of the front loader frame.

36. Attach a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to the rod end of lift cylinder (9), as shown. Use the hoist to lift the rod end of the lift cylinder.

37. Start the engine and extend the lift cylinder rod until the bores are in alignment with the lift arm assembly. Stop the engine.

38. Install pin (12) and shim(s) (43) (if required) to the rod end of the lift cylinder.

39. Install collets (11) on each side of the lift cylinder pin.

40. Put 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of bolt (10). Install bolt (10) in the lift cylinder pin and collet assembly.

NOTE: The collet on one side must not extend farther than the other collet when the bolt is tight.

41. Tighten the bolt that holds the collets to the lift cylinder pin as follows:

a. Tighten bolt (10) to a torque of 1350 ± 160 N·m (1000 ± 120 lb ft). After the bolt is tight, hit the collet on each side with a heavy hammer until the torque on the bolt is less than 680 N·m (500 lb ft).

b. Tighten bolt (10) again to a torque of 1350 ± 160 N·m (1000 ± 120 lb ft). Hit each collet again until the torque for the bolt is less than 1020 N·m (750 lb ft).

c. Tighten bolt (10) to a final torque of 1350 ± 160 N·m (1000 ± 120 lb ft).

NOTE: At the end of 50 service hours, tighten the bolt that holds the collet assemblies to the lift cylinder pin as in Steps 41a through 41c.

42. Repeat Steps 36 through 41 for the lift cylinder on the other side of the machine.

43. Start the engine. Remove the bucket control group safety pins and lower the lift arms. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bucket Control Group Safety Pins - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced. Stop the engine.

44. Attach a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to tilt cylinder (6). Move the tilt cylinder to the position shown. Align the bores of the rod end of the tilt cylinder and the tilt lever.

45. Attach a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to tilt cylinder pin (8). Install the pin and the shim(s) (if required) in the rod end of the tilt cylinder. The weight of the tilt cylinder pin is 24 kg (52 lb).

46. Install collets (7) on each side of the tilt cylinder pin.

47. Put 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of bolt (5). Install bolt (5), the nut and the washers in the tilt cylinder pin assembly.

NOTE: The collet on one side must not extend farther than the other collet when the bolt and nut are tight.

48. Tighten the bolt and the nut that hold the collets to the tilt cylinder pin as follows:

a. Tighten bolt (5) and the nut evenly to a torque of 1800 ± 200 N·m (1330 ± 150 lb ft). After the bolt and the nut are tight, hit the collets on each side with a heavy hammer until the torque on the bolt and the nut is less than 950 N·m (700 lb ft).

b. Tighten bolt (5) and the nut again to a torque of 1800 ± 200 N·m (1330 ± 150 lb ft). Hit each collet again until the torque for the bolt and the nut is less than 1600 N·m (1180 lb ft).

c. Tighten bolt (5) and the nut to a final torque of 1800 ± 200 N·m (1330 ± 150 lb ft).

NOTE: At the end of 50 service hours, tighten the bolt and the nut that hold the collets to the tilt cylinder pin as in Steps 48a through 48c.

49. Connect lubrication hose assembly (4) (if equipped) to the rod end of the tilt cylinder.

50. Attach a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to tilt cylinder guard (3). Put the guard in position on the tilt cylinder, as shown. Install the four bolts and the washers that hold tilt cylinder guard (3) to the tilt cylinder. The weight of the tilt cylinder guard is 30 kg (66 lb).

51. Connect lubrication hose assembly (2) (if equipped) to the head end of the tilt cylinder.

52. Put cover (1) in position on the front loader frame, as shown. Install the two bolts and the washers that hold cover (1) to the frame.

53. Lubricate the mounting pins. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the machine that is being serviced.

End By:

a. Install the bucket. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bucket - Install" for the machine that is being serviced.

b. Remove the steering frame lock pin. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock Pin - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.
