Final Drive Spindle and Wheel Brakes - Assemble

Usage:

Assembly Procedure

NOTE: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

1. Install service brake piston (26) in parking brake piston (27).

2. Install four spring guides (23), four springs (22) and four washers (25) in the brake piston.

3. Use Tooling (A) and a press to compress four springs (22).

4. Install four retaining pins (24) in four spring guides (23), as shown.

5. Install inner piston seals (20) with the flat portion of the seal towards the bottom of the groove in piston assembly (18).

6. Install outer piston seals (21) with the flat portion of the seal towards the bottom of the groove in piston assembly (18).

7. Lubricate piston seals (20) and (21) with clean hydraulic oil.

8. Install inner piston seals (19) with the flat portion of the seal towards the bottom of the groove in piston housing (12).

9. Lubricate piston seal (19) with clean hydraulic oil.

10. Apply clean hydraulic oil to piston assembly (18). Install piston assembly (18) in piston housing (12). The weight of piston assembly (18) is 20 Kg (44 lb).

11. Install O-ring seal (17) in piston housing (13).

12. Install outer piston seals (16) with the flat portion of the seal towards the bottom of the groove in piston housing (13).

13. Install fourteen inner springs (14) and fourteen outer springs (15) in piston housing (13).

14. Lubricate O-ring seal (17) and piston seal (16) with clean hydraulic oil.

15. Install Tooling (B) on piston housing (12), as shown. Attach a hoist and suitable lifting chains to Tooling (B).

16. Install piston housing (12) on piston housing (13). The weight of piston housing (12) is 56 Kg (123 lb).

17. Tighten four bolts (11) in a crosswise pattern approximately 1/8 of a turn each, until all bolts are tight. Tighten bolts (11) to a torque of 100 ± 20 N·m (75 ± 15 lb ft).

18. Apply clean hydraulic oil to brake plate (9). Install one brake plate (9) in spindle assembly (2).

19. Apply clean hydraulic oil to four brake discs (10) and four brake plate (9). Install four brake discs and four brake plate (9) on hub (7), as shown.

20. Use Tooling (C) to install retaining ring (8) on hub (7).

21. Use two persons to install the brake plates, the brake discs and the hub assembly in spindle assembly (2). The weight of the four brake plates, the four brake discs and the hub is 27 Kg (60 lb).

22. Install O-ring seal (6) in spindle assembly (2). Lubricate O-ring seal (6) with clean hydraulic oil.

23. Install brake assembly (1) on spindle assembly (2). The weight of brake assembly (1) is 145 Kg (320 lb).

24. Tighten four bolts (5) in a crosswise pattern approximately 1/8 of a turn each, until all bolts are tight. Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 100 ± 20 N·m (75 ± 15 lb ft).

25. Install three O-ring seals (3) and O-ring seal (4) in brake assembly (1).
