This article provides information on methods to determine effectiveness of the aftercooler cores on the above engines. These methods can be used to determine aftercooler core performance and to diagnose elevated air inlet manifold temperatures. The following equation should be used to calculate the aftercooler effectiveness:
The effectiveness should be greater than or equal to 0.84. If the factor is less than 0.84, the differential pressure for the air side and coolant side of the aftercooler cores should be measured. The specifications in Charts A and B apply to the above engines using only 1W-0851, 7E-3100, 1W-0888, and 1W-0921 Aftercooler Groups. These specifications do not apply to the high performance aftercooler (HPAC).
Chart A provides the aftercooler air side differential pressure specifications. Chart B provides the aftercooler coolant side differential pressure specifications.
