When 3600 Industrial Engines operate on heavy fuel oil, the exhaust manifolds must be cleaned at top end overhaul. The top end overhaul should occur between 8,000 and 12,000 service hours as specified in the Operation & Maintenance Manual, SEBU6966. In addition, the exhaust manifolds should be inspected every 4,000 service hours.
Regular cleaning of the exhaust manifolds can prevent deposits from building up. Even a few millimeters of buildup can cause an increase in the operating temperature of the engine. Cleaning of the exhaust manifolds should be performed by first soaking the exhaust manifolds in water. Use a steel scraper in order to remove the deposits. Finish the cleaning with a steel brush, and brush off the deposits with a nylon brush.
