PROBLEM
Show/hide table
The bolt holes on the rear engine mount supports need to be inspected and potentially reworked on certain 824H Wheel Dozers, 825H Soil Compactors, and 826H Landfill Compactors. The existing mounting system can potentially come loose causing significant damage to the machine. |

ACTION REQUIRED
Show/hide table
Required Tools in Order to Perform the Inspection Procedure: PIN gauge or cylindrical plug gauge (13.835 mm = go, 14.45mm = no-go) is recommended in order to perform the inspection process. Inspection Tool Procurement Recommendation: Thread Check Inc. www.threadcheck.com Tel: 631-231-1515 Toll Free: 1-800-767-7633 World-Wide Shipping Capability PIN Gauge Specification for Order: PIN 14.45mm plus no go-ZZ-PS/E-STL Inspection Procedure: Remove one of the 8T-4140 Bolts (A) from the 230-4217 Support (B). Using the PIN gauge or cylindrical plug gauge, verify the inside diameter of threads in the 112-4165 Plate (C). If the inside diameter is less than 14.45mm then the PIN gauge will not fit into the bolt hole and the hole is not oversized. No further action is needed. Refer to Image1. If the inside diameter is greater than 14.45mm, then the PIN gauge will fit into the bolt hole and the frame will need to be reworked according to the following Rework Procedure. Refer to Image1. Required Parts for Rework Procedure: 7X-2556 Hex Head Bolt (Quantity 4) Block - (Qty 2) The block can be fabricated according to Image4 or procured from Caterpillar by contacting Matt Peterson in the Service Engineering Group at 630-859-6148 or by e-mail at Peterson_Matthew_K@cat.com. Within the e-mail, please provide the address of where to ship the blocks. Rework Procedure: Removal of the belly guards is required in order to perform this repair procedure on the 824H Wheel Dozers, 825H Soil Compactors, and 826H Landfill Compactors. In addition to the removal of the belly guards, the 826H Landfill Compactors also requires the rear striker bar to be removed. Once the required guard removal is complete, drill out the threaded holes at location (D) on 112-4165 Plate (C) to a diameter of 18mm. This will need to be performed on the left and right sides of the frame and will include a total of four holes. This can be completed without removing the 112-4165 Plate (C). Refer to Image2. Place the 420-6105 Block (G) under the 112-4165 Plate (C) and assemble the 7X-2556 Bolts (F). Tighten the bolts to a specified torque of 240 +/- 40 N.m. The existing washers (E) will be used for this Rework Procedure. Using a 3mm fillet X 40mm long weld, centered on the fabricated block (both sides of frame), weld the 420-6105 Block into place at location (H). Repeat same process on other side of frame. Refer to Image3. Reinstall the rear striker bar, if applicable, and reinstall all belly guards after the Rework Procedure has been completed. |
