  • Next Gen Grade Cross Slope - Automatic control of the left or right side of the blade to maintain a target cross slope.

- Utilizes GS520 Inertial Sensors and the EC520 Controller for improved cross slope performance.

- Allows the configuration of Cross Slope favorites.

- System can be used for cross slope indication or automatic control.

- Supports joystick switch commands for slope increment/decrement, left side auto/manual, right side auto/manual, cross slope bench, and slope direction swap.

Note: 3D and 2D upgrades are not yet available for the system.

Tractor D3K2- D5K2 and D6 Build 20A Specific Features:

  • Slope Assist - Automatic control of Blade Slope and/or Mainfall Slope. System now supports independent automatic control of Blade Slope only or Mainfall Slope only cases in both basic and advanced modes

  • Grade 3D Automatics - Automatic lift and tilt control of the blade to design surface using selected guidance and correction source.

  • Auto Modes - Latch to Grade and Snap to Grade

- Latch to Grade - Method for engaging automatic control requires Auto button press and moving the blade to design before automatic control takes over until interrupted by a manual command.

- Snap to Grade - Method for engaging automatic control requires the Auto button press and the blade to be within the capture range before automatic control takes over until the Auto button is pressed again.

General Features:

  • Cut/Fill Mapping - Cut/Fill Mapping shows operator progress against a design. As operators work, the display shows them where they have worked and whether or not the work is above, below or on design. The progress map uses the same colors as the light bar indicators, with the following indications:

- Red - over design

- Green - on design

- Blue - below design

- Grey - outside of design

  • Operators can view or hide the feature as desired using a soft key. Cut/Fill Mapping is available in plan view, cross-section view, and profile view for Office Design, In-Field design, and Lane Guidance. Cut/Fill Mapping is unavailable for Depth and Slope.

Note: Cut/Fill Mapping requires a Core license, part number 160000-200, Module License - Advanced Mapping and Productivity.

  • Cat Grade connectivity through Product Link - Cat machines equipped with the PL641 radios and Network Managers connected to the EC520 controller will have the following capabilities and services:

- Cellular services for Virtual Reference Stations (VRS) - Allows a 3D system to get corrections from a subscription VRS service.

- Cellular services for Internet Base Stations (IBSS) - Allows a 3D system to get corrections from an IBSS service through a Trimble Connected Community account.

- Cellular services for File Transfer with Trimble Connected Community (TCC) accounts - Allows back-office data management and synchronization with the 3D grade control system on the machine.

- Remote access to the EC520 - Technical support can log in remotely to diagnose issues before traveling out to the machine if machine is powered and within cellular coverage.

- Machine service port access to the EC520 Web Interface - Ability to connect a laptop to the Ethernet connection included in the machine’s service port and access the EC520 Web Interface.

- SNM941 Support - Ability to connect a Trimble SNM941 to the Ethernet network on the machine for many of the same features/functionality listed above.

Note: Product Link PL641 radio support is available on Cat Next GenerationExcavators (Series 07 Revision A) (i.e. 320-07A), D6 build 20A Track Type Tractors, and D3K2- D5K2 Track Type Tractors with A6N2 Network Manager and PL641 radio in certain supported regions.

Note: MS955 GNSS Receivers require v5.34 firmware to support the Rugged Zephyr 3 antennas accurately.

  • Productivity reporting sends machine-specific production data to VisionLink (active subscription required) through SNM94x radio. The data can be used to generate maps and 3D models of machine production.

Improvements

The new software has various improvements that are listed below:

  • Improved Ethernet connection handling in cases where the Ethernet connection is interrupted.

  • Resolved blade wear issue seen with Slope Assist on D3K2- D5K2.

  • Supports Web Interface access through the machine service port and Winflash EC520 controller flashing when a Trimble SNM94x cellular modem is connected through the Network Manager

Known Issues

  • Avoid using spaces in project names. Within the GRADE app, when a new project name has a space and the project is saved, synching synchronizing could take a long time. Avoid using spaces in project names to ensure optimal synchronizing time.

  • Deleting the currently loaded infield design. User cannot delete an infield design that is currently being used. To delete the current design, load a new design and then user can delete the previous design that was being used.

  • "Navigate to Point" may display a black box instead of a point icon. When using "Navigate to Point", user may see a black box instead of a point icon. Open any Op UI menu item screen and then go back to the main screen. The point icon will display correctly.

  • Machine Positions and Points of Interest information is not displayed under certain conditions. For machines with 3D sensors configured, the Web Interface > Monitor > Machine Positions page does not display any information when there is no design loaded. To enable the system to calculate and display the 3D position information, load a design.

  • The "Web Interface" unlock button may stop working. The Unlock button (the Technician Request access button) in the "Web Interface" may stop working. If this occurs, refresh the "Web Interface" page of the browser.

  • For some languages, the "Web Interface" toggle text exceeds the available space. For some languages, the length of the text describing the state of Web Interface toggle switches exceeds the space available. The full text displays when users hover over the toggle with a mouse pointer.

  • Vertical adjustments defined in coordinate systems are not applied. In "Business Center - HCE", when a plane projection coordinate system is entered and the project is transferred to the GRADE app, any vertical adjustment defined in the coordinate system is not applied. Consider using a local site calibration if sufficient control is available.

  • The file extension for license files is case-sensitive. License files have the form "<EC520 or TD520 serial number>.txt". The ".txt" extension must be lower case. Attempting to load a license file with an upper case extension fails and the following error is logged in the program log as "Device Serial Number incorrect".

  • Repeating the Installation Assistant - Setup section may be necessary after installing an updated MDF in the Web Interface

  • Valve calibrations may cause the blade to move beyond the set limits and strike the ground. Perform valve calibration on surfaces that are inconsequential if contacted by the blade.

  • Moving a dozer while the EC520 is initializing may make the "Start" button unavailable.

  • "Productivity Data" cannot be uploaded to VisionLink via GRADE connectivity through the Product Link radio.

  • The TD520 and the Cat display use different guidance points. The TD520 reports cut/fill based on the vertical guidance point. The Cat autos display reports cut/fill based on the bucket focus point.

  • Upgrading some machines from GRADE v1.2.0 to a later version may cause measure-up issues. If user reconfigures an EC520 system ECM from a CGC excavator to a Generic Excavator, user may experience excavator front linkage measure-up issues after upgrading from v1.2.0. To prevent measure-up issues, reset the system to defaults after the upgrade.

  • Visual representations of a tilting attachment may be misleading. When using a tilting attachment, the cross section and profile views can provide misleading visual guidance due to the way the views are drawn. Cut / Fill text items and lightbar guidance are correct.

  • Laser elevation reference data is lost when the system shuts down. Laser elevation reference data is not saved to non-volatile memory, and is lost when the EC520 system ECM is shut down. When the EC520 system ECM is restarted, the operator must rebench the laser reference elevation before moving the machine.

  • E and F-Series Cat GRADE machines missing dimensions. For new installs on top of E/F Series Cat GRADE hydraulic excavators, if five calibrations readings for any of the linkages (boom, stick, or bucket) are stored on the existing Cat GRADE system, then the linkage measurements cannot be read by the newly installed system. To use stored linkage measurements:

  1. Using the Cat machine display, remove a calibration reading.

  2. Using the GRADE system, recheck the sensors.

  3. The existing linkage measurements are now used by the GRADE system.

Once the existing four linkage measurements are accepted by GRADE, if five calibration measurements are desired for a linkage, user can add an extra calibration measurement.
