SIMS Reports Must Be Correctly Completed To Be Entered In Data System

Usage:

All Industrial, Marine, And Generator Set Engines;
Marine Transmissions

The SIMS report form is the heart of Caterpillar's SIMS (Service Information Management System). The SIMS report MUST be correctly filled out or your report will not be entered into the system. This will happen if the Group Number, Cat Serial Number (now called Product Identification Number on some products), Dealer Code, or Date is left blank.

One common omission is leaving out the Group Number. This is often done with branded products because most of them do not yet have Group Numbers assigned to the parts. Thus, no Group Numbers appear in the Parts Books. Another reason is that sometimes a single page shows parts from more than one group.

If there is no Group Number, write in a specified SUBSTITUTE Group Number. Refer to the cross-reference list, "Caterpillar Product Service Reporting Codes For SIMS And Warranty Use", Form 01-036517-04, for these Substitute Group Numbers. See Page 23 for the list of SUBSTITUTE Group Numbers that apply only to mixing, paving, compacting, and profiling equipment. For other branded products, use the list for construction equipment and engines beginning on Page 4.

This booklet is free of charge and NACD dealers should order it on their computer terminal. Other dealers should order copies in the usual manner on the Literature Shipping Order. Order one for any serviceman or others who write Service Reports.

Remember, all information in a SIMS report is important. After you fill out a report, check it carefully to be sure it is complete and accurate.
