Cylinder Liner Seat Insert Available

Usage:


3500 Series Engines

Description of Change: A new liner seat insert is available for use on all 3500 Series Engines. Cylinder blocks with erosion or wear on the top face of the block, under the cylinder liners, can be salvaged by installing these liner seat inserts.

Adaptable To: The new 7W5949 Liner Seat Insert is adaptable to all 3500 Series Engines.

Installation Procedure

The following tools are available to machine the cylinder block for installation of the 7W5949 Liner Seat Insert.

... 5P8606 Cutter Assembly
... 8T5113 Cutter Setting Gauge
... 8T2682 Holder Group
... 1D3419 Mounting Bolts

1. Use the above tools to counterbore the cylinder block to the dimensions shown in the illustration.

2. Clean all surfaces of the insert and counterbore before installation.

NOTE: Do not use any liquid gasket or loctite on the insert or in the counterbore.

3. Install the liner seat insert with the chamfer toward the cylinder block.

4. Check cylinder liner projection. The liner projection should be from 0.06 to 0.20 mm (.002 to .008").

5. If the liner projection exceeds 0.20 mm (.008"), remove the liner seat insert and increase the counterbore depth by the difference between the measured projection (Step 4) and 0.15 mm (.006").

6. The procedure for installing liner seat inserts in 3500 Series engine blocks is similar to installing the liner seat inserts in other Caterpillar Engines. For more information about the general installation procedure, see Special Instruction Form SMHS7600.
