Time Delay (Relay) Switches Should Be Tested Before They Are Returned For Warranty Claims

All Marine, Industrial and Generator Set Engines

The 4W8471 Time Delay (relay) Switches used on the above engines, are being returned for warranty claims, as being defective. After bench testing, most have been shown to be in good working condition. Time delay switches that are suspected of being defective, must be tested before being returned to Caterpillar for warranty claims. Use the procedure given in the Service Manual, 3500 Series Engines, Electric Protective System Module, Form SENR2985, Page 43, Procedure F, to perform a bench test of the time delay (relay) switches.
