Improved Clutch Disc And Cooling Oil Flow

Usage:

7251, 7261 Marine Transmissions

Description of Change: A new clutch disc is used on the 7251 and 7261 Marine Transmissions. The new disc does not have the radial slots from the outside diameter of the disc. The new disc has a different groove pattern in the friction material to provide increased oil flow without high horsepower loss.

The size of two holes in the reverse (astern) shaft (see Illustration 1) has been increased from 10.7 mm (.42") to 19.5 mm (.75") diameter. The larger holes will increase the flow of cooling oil to the forward clutch to give equal oil flow to each clutch. The increased oil flow will reduce forward clutch smearing and overheating.

Adaptable As: The new 7T5481 Clutch Disc is a direct replacement for the former 5N3343 Clutch Disc which has been canceled. The new clutch disc is adaptable to all 7251 and 7261 Marine Transmissions. The location of the clutch discs is shown in Illustration 2.

The holes in the reverse shaft, shown in illustration 1, can be made larger on all 7251 and 7261 Marine Transmissions. Use a reamer or other suitable tool to enlarge the holes.
